Brief.

NYX Professional Make-up wanted to educate consumers on their new Barbie Movie collaboration through a bold, hot pink takeover designed to attract and engage passers-by. The brand’s ambition was to create an unmissable, highly shareable activation that would capture attention in a busy retail environment, drive mass awareness, and encourage conversation as much as product discovery. The experience needed to reflect the playful, confident spirit of both NYX and the Barbie brand, while delivering meaningful opportunities for trial, engagement, and purchase.

Solution.

The Barbie Beach Babes experience delivered a vibrant, summer-inspired “pink paradise” in the heart of Covent Garden, transforming a high-footfall location into an immersive brand world. Designed to stand out instantly, the activation invited visitors into a fully branded beach setting where they could escape the bustle of the city and step into a bold, sun-soaked NYX experience.

A series of interactive makeup stations was positioned across the beachfront, allowing shoppers to trial the new Barbie-inspired collection with the support of expert NYX makeup artists. Visitors were guided to discover fresh, summer-ready looks, while also having the opportunity to purchase products directly via Superdrug tills on-site, seamlessly converting engagement into sales.

To amplify the experience, a series of playful touchpoints were integrated throughout the space, encouraging social sharing and user-generated content. Guests were invited to take part in interactive moments with the chance to win instant “merch” rewards, helping to drive excitement and repeat engagement. Complementing the beach theme, complimentary slushies were offered to guests relaxing on the sand, adding a refreshing and memorable hospitality element that enhanced dwell time and overall enjoyment.

The activation generated significant footfall and high levels of engagement, attracting thousands of visitors over the course of the campaign. The immersive environment and interactive elements drove strong social media traction, with a substantial volume of user-generated content created and shared across platforms, extending the campaign’s reach far beyond Covent Garden. Product trial was high, with a large proportion of visitors engaging with the makeup stations, leading to a notable uplift in on-site sales through Superdrug. The experience successfully elevated brand awareness, strengthened cultural relevance, and positioned NYX as a key player in delivering bold, conversation-worthy beauty experiences.
